Data Browser

After logging in to the RDMS you will be in your home drive of the RDMS.

Starred files and folders are marked by the owner. It is an easy way of sorting the most used files and folder of that moment. Any file or folder that you have access to can be selected and set as a starred file of folder.

A project is defined as a formal research project container that can consist of data and metadata and can have triggers for data handling. For instance; in a project it is possible to archive data. A project is managed by a project manager or data manager; these roles manage the access to the files and folders of the project.

It is also possible to create a team drive and later convert the created drive to a RDMS project. A team drive is an area where people can share data and cooperate using the same data objects. The difference between a group drive and a project is that a group drive does not receive the project guarding metadata tags.

Select the Projects section to see the list of the projects where you have a role or a user privilege. By selecting a project, properties of the project; metadata templates and applicable policies and the project members are shown.

Once a project is created, you can add collections and data objects to that particular project. For more information about uploading data, please refer to the section about data.

N.B. Note that it is at this moment not possible to add external collaborators.

Team drives are areas in the RDMS where researchers can add their research data and share this data with other team members.

Team drives may be considered as data sharing areas for collaborations. The main difference between a group drive and a project area are the permissions and restrictions on the data.

For example in a project area the data manager is the only user who has the rights to create a project, grant permissions to users or remove data objects. In the team drive area, every user may create a directory and add data to share with other users.

All files and folders shared with you from home drives are in this list. For easy access you can set a these shared files and folder to Starred.

Deleted files are moved to the Trash. The folder Trash will show you the contect of the folder /trash/home/[UserName]. .

You are the sole owner of the files in your home drive. You can add files and folders and append metadata to those files and folders for categorization and easier retrieval.

It is also possible to make a public share from a folder or a file.

Once a “Shared drive” (“Group drive”) has been created, the owner or the users with enough privileges may add new directories and data objects to it.

Every RDMS user with enough privileges on a shared directory can grant access to other users to the data stored in a shared folder.

To share the content of a folder or directory, navigate to the data management in the left menu and select the directory. Use the right mouse button. This will open a drop-down menu with a set of options. Select the “Add user” option to grant access to a user. This operation will open a new panel where one can select a user name and the desired level of access for the specified user. Click “Change permissions” button to apply the changes.

Create a team drive

The top-level directory shared is the place to put your shared data. It has the following absolute path: rugZone/home/shared/.

If you are able to add a new teamdrive depends on your user rights. To create a shared folder or team drive, first select the data management panel on the left of the screen in the RDMS.

The option to create a new team drive is available via the drop-down menu at the top left.
