First Time Users

  • All staff and students of the UG with a P or S-number can access the RDMS via the web interface or via using iCommands. An account will be automatically created upon their first login. Please contact us if other UG accounts, for example functional accounts (F-number), need access.
  • All users can access the Defaults Zone.
  • Sensitive research data should be stored and/or archived in the Sensitive Data Zone of the RDMS. To access this zone for the first time, users should contact rdms-support@rug.nl to request access.
  • To access the RDMS, make sure you are in the network of the UG! The RDMS is only accessible from the UG network, meaning that you can only log into the system with an IP-address from the UG. On UG premises, this can be achieved by connecting to Eduroam or through a wired internet connection. On other machines and locations, you need to use a VPN connection.

Now, you are set to start using the RDMS via your choice of platforms and protocols. For example, you can now use Cyberduck for file management and the web portal for management of permissions and metadata. Or, you can use the command line interface (CLI) for both tasks.

In this wiki, you will find documentation for the setup and use of popular GUI clients like Cyberduck and WinSCP with the RDMS. The usage of the CLI client, iCommands, is also explained in detail. Other ways of connecting to the RDMS are explained in the pages detailing how to establish a connection to the RDMS from Hábrók HPC, how to connect to RDMS from LWP, as well has how to use the RDMS inside Unishare.
