The RDMS as a solution

To make the most out of the functionalities of the RDMS we describe three activities:

It should be emphasized that the RDMS is not meant for directly working on the data. It is an archiving storage solution and the use of the RDMS is a way to aggregate scientific data of a group for the mid-term storage phase of the data life cycle.

Also the RDMS can be used as a storage point for scientific data that is not needed at the moment, but which will likely be useful for current or future researchers within the same team. Again by adding metadata to the data objects, findability is increased compared to current storage solutions (e.g., Y: drive). If the users at a later stage want to again retrieve data stored on the RDMS, the metadata information can greatly simplify the process of both finding the desired data and providing important experimental details.
