Using the RDMS

There are two kinds of users to the RDMS;

  • users who store their own research data in a structural manner. These researchers order and structure their data themselves to keep overview of their work and data. They can choose to store their data on their home drives or group drives.
  • Data managers, data engineers and data stewards. These users organize and set up file structures and file rights for multiple researchers. Maybe add metadata templates to folders to ensure their integrity or add triggers to the folders or files. These users manage data for a project or a research group.

The chapters on Access, Uploading and Metadata of this wiki is for the researcher who wants to store her data on the RDMS. Maybe use the Team drive to share data

The second part of this wiki is for data managers and data stewards

For staff members in the role of data manager, data engineer or data steward a description of the workflow and functionalities for the data management is and the proper use of the RDMS would be:

  • Add a project and name the project
  • Add members to the project and assign the rights they need
  • Set a metadata template on a folder or file
