Frequently Asked Questions

If you have suggestions for our FAQ, please contact us at the dcc@rug.nl.

The VRE has no Internet connection, so a VRE user is not able to install R packages from the regular repositories. There are two possibilities to install R packages in the VRE:

  1. There is a trusted mirror of the CRAN that gets updated daily and is available on the VRE. The path to the mirror must be set by the user: http://rep001.research.usor.nl/
  2. Data managers of Researcher+ can upload data to the VRE. If you upload the package to the group drive (G:) all members of the study can install that R package.

If you work often with the same packages or share the use of these packages, we advise you to put all the packages you need in a project folder on the Group drive.

Using GIT in R studio

If you would like to use GIT in the VRE for version control, you can add GIT to the options of R studio. Open R Studio and choose Tools | Global Options | GIT/SVN. The local path to Git is "C:/Program Files/Git2251/cmd/git.exe"

VREW users for Atlas.Ti need to log in to Atlas.Ti. Researchers from the UG can use their personnel number (p-account), and external researchers can log in with their institutional account if the institution has a license for Atlas.Ti. During the VRE intake consultation we will discuss the applications needed for the study. If Atlas.Ti is deemed necessary, the VRE consultant can arrange for an OEP account for external researchers. An OEP account is an account for external personnel of the UG.

We have seen that the VRE could not start properly and gave an error "file has been moved". This is after authentication. We solved the error by de-installing the Citrix Client and installing the client anew. But - and this is essential - install it from the dfh.usor.nl portal. The Citrix client from this portal is pre-configured with VRE settings
