You can access the RDMS by simply following the above link and using your UG email address and password for login. Your account will be automatically activated after your first login. If you experience any problem, please contact [[rdms-support@rug.nl|rdms-support@rug.nl]].

====== About the RDMS ======
The Research Data Management System (RDMS) is the **long-term data storage solution** of the University of Groningen (UG). The system is built on top of the open source data management software [[https://irods.org/|iRODS]], and it helps researchers comply with the 10-year data storage requirement outlined in the UG and NWO data management policies. The RDMS is designed to help researchers adhere to the  [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_science|Open Science]] framework and the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FAIR_data|FAIR data principles]], while also considering the regulations imposed by the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Data_Protection_Regulation|GDPR]]. 
For that, the RDMS offers [[https://wiki.hpc.rug.nl/rdms/solution/multizone|two zones]]: one for non-sensitive research data (Default Data Zone) and one for sensitive research data (Sensitive Data Zone).

**Current RDMS functionality (January 2025):**
  * A centralized long-term data storage system for research data (both sensitive and non-sensitive data).
  * Data sharing within the UG.
  * Implementation of automated policies by users.
  * The option to add customized metadata and extract metadata from file headers.
  * Data storing in personal and [[rdms:solution:team|team]] environments.
  * Different user roles and permissions.
  * Advance data query (search) options. Function to save and export the query results.
  * A connection to the HPC clusters [[rdms:access:hpc|Hábrók]] and Snellius as well as the [[rdms:access:lwp:|Linux Workspace (LWP)]] for easy data transfer via command line.

Moreover, we are continuously working on the RDMS to increase the user experience and add new functionalities. 

**Upcoming functionalities:**
  * Audit & activity log: Users can trace back the history of actions performed on given data and identify who performed them.
  * Publishing metadata in public repositories to facilitate the Open Science Framework.

===== Using the Wiki =====

Are you new to the RDMS? Check out the [[rdms:solution:firsttimeuser|section for first time users]], which gives a good starting point for using the system. If, instead, you already know specifically what you are looking for, you can use the sidebar on the left side for navigation of the different topics. 

Alternatively, you can use the built-in search of our Wiki. You can find the search bar on the top right of each wiki page as shown in the screenshot below.

If you want to use the search bar, please keep in mind that the RDMS wiki is [[:start|shared with other CIT services]]. This means that the search will by default scan for your input in all the different CIT wikis that are available. If you wish to **limit your search to the RDMS**, simply include ''@rdms'' in your search terms. 

Moreover, you can toggle additional search tools and functions once the results of your query are displayed. See the screenshot below to find out how you can further adjust your search.

Moreover, longer wiki pages that contain multiple and/or partly nested subsections have an additional table of contents (TOC) that can be used to swiftly navigate the page. To open the TOC, click on the respective button next to the search bar in the top-right of the wiki. If you do not see a TOC, it means that the page you are in does not contain many subsections.
