====== Using the RDMS ====== | ====== Using the RDMS ====== |

There are two kinds of users to the RDMS | There are two main kinds of users of the RDMS: |
* Users who store their own research data in a structural manner. These researchers order and structure their data themselves to keep overview of their work and data. Metadata may be added to enhance searchibility or make it easier to retrieve datasets. They can choose to store their data on their projects, home drives or group drives. | * **Regular user**: This user has ownership of their Home Drive and the data they store in the system. They can perform basic operations on (meta)data and folders. |
* Data managers, data engineers and data stewards. These users organize and set up file structures and file rights for multiple researchers. They can use metadata templates to folders to ensure their integrity or add triggers to the folders or files. These users manage data for a project or a research group. | * **Privileged user**: This user is either a Group Admin, a Team Drive Owner, or both. Like any regular user, they can perform standard operations on their files. In addition, they have access to the Data Management tab, which allows them to create new Team Drives and Projects, and manage permissions for existing Team Drives and Projects. They have ownership of Team Drives and Groups, as well as their own Home Drive. This role is mostly suitable for staff members. To become a privileged user, please contact us via rdms-support@rug.nl. |

The chapters on Access, Uploading and Metadata of this wiki is for the researcher who wants to store her data on the RDMS. Maybe use the Team drive to share data. | If you are a **regular user**, then the following pages are a good place for you to start learning about the RDMS: |
| * First Time Users: For a quick starter guide, |
| * Storing Data: For an overview of the system, |
| * RDMS Web Interface: For information and access to the web interface, |
| * Data in the RDMS: For an overview of how the system can handle your data, |
| * Data Management in the RDMS: For a description of first and third-party clients to access the RDMS with, |
| * User Training: For a quick overview of the training we offer. |
| |
The chapter on Managing Projects of this wiki is for data managers and data stewards | If you are a **privileged user**, then you might also want to read the following pages: |
| * Team Drives: For an overview of what a Team Drive is and how to manage it, |
| * Projects and Archives: For an overview of the projects environment and what it can be used for, |
| * Data Management Tab: For an overview of what the Data Management tab offers, |
| * Workflows in the RDMS: For an overview of our workflow environment. |
| |
| In order to optimally use the RDMS, we advise all users to read the Best Practices section, which is regularly updated. If you have further questions, please contact us via rdms-support@rug.nl. |
