====== Data in the RDMS ====== In the RDMS we use these concepts about data storage: * **Personal area**: In the RDMS, you have by default your own, personal data storage space. In the web portal, your personal RDMS Home Drive is marked as My folder. * **Group/shared area**: This area is used to store data for a team or research group. In the RDMS, we call this section RDMS Team Drives and users have to be added to such a shared drive before they become accessible via the web portal or other clients. * **Project area**: This special area is used to store data that belongs to a research project that aims at publication (e.g., thesis data, data underlying a scientific papter). In contrasts to the two other areas, the RDMS Projects allow to add additional special policies like automatically removing the permissions of participants after a certain date. Moreover, it is possible to initialize the RDMS internal archiving workflow at the end of a finished project from this area. We support access to the RDMS via different clients, for example the web portal, GUI clients like Cyberduck or the command line. This section provides a general overview about the different options for data transfer depending on the size of the data that should be transferred. In general, it should be noted that the web portal was specifically written with the idea of data management in mind (e.g. working with metadata (templates), permission management) and is limited in its data transfer capabilities. In the RDMS it is possible to change permissions and inheritance and also to share files and folders. These tasks can be performed within the web portal, or via the command line.
