{{indexmenu_n>7}} ===== Accessing your UG workstation remotely ===== If you use a UFC workstation, a user managed, Windows-based workstation as on the main page, you can use the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) to start a remote session as a direct connection to that machine. The [[https://rug.topdesk.net/tas/public/ssp/content/detail/knowledgeitem?unid=2e03a15bbe0845b5a9dfd75b72a3f9ba|manual in the IRIS portal]] explains how this works in brief terms, but this section will elaborate a little bit more on the steps to get a RDP session configured. To start, you need to log into the local UFC workstation. In order for this to work, you need to log in with an account that has admin rights on that machine. Next, find "Remote desktop settings" and open the menu. {{ dcc:itsol:remoteaccess:remote_access_rdp_1.png?direct&600 |}} In the opened settings, make sure that RDP is activated for your UFC machine. This menu also allows you to add other UG users to the list of users that can access the UFC remotely, if you want to. The account activating the RDP function should always have access, but it is never wrong to check before you continue. {{ dcc:itsol:remoteaccess:remote_access_rdp_2.png?direct&600 |}} Once you have activated the RDP and have made sure your account is allowed to access the machine, you can close the window as you have everything setup for starting the remote connection. You can now try to connect from another workstation at home, a private laptop, etc. **Note:** That for the following steps to work, the account that tries to connect needs to be enabled in the UFC settings and the machine that tries to connect needs to use the UG (RDP) VPN! On the (Windows) device with which you want to connect, open "Remote Desktop Connection". {{ dcc:itsol:remoteaccess:remote_access_rdp_3.png?direct&600 |}} Specify the IP address or name of the UFC workstation to which you want to connect and click the "Connect" button. {{ dcc:itsol:remoteaccess:remote_access_rdp_4.png?direct&600 |}} **Note:** If you are not logged in with on another UG workstation with the same user that you want to use, you will need to additionally specify the correct user in the format ''WORKSPACE\''! You should now be asked to enter your login credentials/password. Confirm these now. {{ dcc:itsol:remoteaccess:remote_access_rdp_5.png?direct&600 |}} If all was correctly setup, your UFC session will open in a RDP window on your machine and you can work as if you were sitting in front of the UFC workstation. {{ dcc:itsol:remoteaccess:remote_access_rdp_6.png?direct&600 |}} [[dcc:itsol:remoteaccess| ← Back to the Remote Access main page]]
